OUR MISSION
We are an eco-tourism company owned and operated by Michael Bastarache. Explorer, artist, poet, musician, storyteller and proud Nova Scotian, Michael had worked in the boat building and lobster fishing industries before establishing Lunenburg Kayak Rentals in 2023 and adding floating cottages in 2025. The company was born from a desire to provide locals and visitors alike with a safe, enjoyable and memorable experience that has a positive impact on our community. Our goal is to showcase all that Lunenburg County and the Atlantic Ocean have to offer, while remaining dedicated to environmental preservation. We guarantee that your experience with us will be unique and charming, and that our staff will go above and beyond to make that happen. Whether you would like to have a private tour or maybe require special needs for your rentals, please let us know and we will try our best to accommodate. Lunenburg Kayak Rentals & Floating Cottages is proud to be an inclusive company, all are welcome with or without any previous ocean experience.

LOCATION
We are located just a four minute drive from the heart of Lunenburg. Our cottage is nestled in calm waters where a trickling fresh waterfall meets a narrow and protected inlet of the beautiful Atlantic ocean. Our property stretches as far as you can see and holds as much beauty as the ocean views you’ll get from the cottage or boat. In the fields beside our dock you’ll see grazing Norwegian horses, a swan pond, and even some wandering goats among other farm animals. The Sunnybrook Mill Market is just a stones throw from our dock and open all year round from10-5 pm every Saturday and Sunday. If you’re lucky enough to visit us on the weekend you’ll be able to check out some crafts or purchase locally grown food from the wonderful owners Royal & Karen. The Hungry Traveller Cafe is located just a five minute walk and has professionally trained staff serving delicious meals as well as take away baked goods. We have the most picturesque views of Lunenburg county shore. This location was not chosen just for convenience, it was hand picked for its beauty and privacy.
We have many on-site amenities including…
- Private parking for our guests.
- On-site toilet.
- A trailer beside our dock that serves as our shop, but also provides you with a private place to get changed or store your belongings.
- Sunnybrook Mill Market is 20 metres away from our dock and open every weekend from 10 am - 5 pm
